Episode Guide for Series 9 (2011)

Waking The Dead is BBC ONE's hit crime drama series - starring Trevor Eve, Sue Johnston,  Tara Fitzgerald and Wil Johnson.

Using advanced techniques in forensic science, the Met's crack squad of experts gets under the skin of some tough "cold cases" to discover the truth.  The team uses new evidence that has just come to light as well as new technology to re-examine old evidence.

Boyd's (Trevor Eve) team of devoted professionals often take risks in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Waking The Dead also stars Sue Johnston as psychological profiler Dr Grace Foley; Tara Fitzgerald as Dr Eve Lockhart, and Wil Johnson as DS Spencer Jordan, Boyd's second-in-command.

Created by Barbara Machin, Waking The Dead is written by Stephen Davis, Simon Mirren and Ed Whitmore. Produced by Richard Burrell, the executive producer is Alexei De Keyser.

One of the BBC's most popular dramas, Waking the Dead regularly draws audiences of over 8 million in the UK. It's twice been nominated for an International Emmy and in 2004 won the award for Best Drama Series, with specific reference to writer Stephen Davis for Breaking Glass, directed by David Thacker, and writer Ed Whitmore for Multistorey, directed by Bob Bierman.

Devised by Barbara Machin, Waking The Dead began life as a two-part pilot episode shown on BBC ONE in September 2000, with a full series following in June 2001.

There have been eight series so far.  Each story is split into two hour-long episodes.  There have been 82 episodes up to and including series eight.

Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd played by Trevor Eve is the central character and heads the Cold Case Unit.  He is renowned for shouting at both the suspects that he interviews and the members of his own team.  He has attended Anger Management courses and even consulted a psychiatrist.  He was particularly affected by the death of his son who was a drug addict and DS Mel Silver while working on his team.

Psychological Profiler Dr Grace Foley is played by Sue Johnston.  She has thirty years experience in her field and she has a close working relationship with Boyd often bringing him back to Earth when he starts “to lose it”.  She is unmarried and has no children appearing to be married to the job.

Dectective Inspector Spencer Jordan played by Wil Johnson is a leg-man for Boyd and a long-suffering copper.  He has even been shot and injured in the line of duty.

Forensic Pathologist Eve Lockhart played by Tara Fitzgerald is the third pathologist that the team has had she replaced Felix Gibson (Esther Hall) in Series 6, who had followed on from Frankie Wharton (Holly Aird).  All have been dedicated and conscientious going to incredible lengths to provide the evidence and information that the team needs.

Detective Sergeant Stella Goodman played by Felicite du Jeu replaced Mel Silver (Claire Goose)  in Series 5 who was killed at the end of Series 4 in the story Shadowplay. The episode also marked the final appearance of Frankie Wharton (Holly Aird).  She is good friends with Spencer and was initially disliked by Boyd.

Detective Sergeant Amelia “Mel” Silver played by Claire Goose often questioned Boyd  and was as a child taken from her mother who was considered to be mentally unfit.

The programme is frequently shown on cable/satellite channels and is due for a Ninth series on BBC1.
