Homepage Monday Monday

Monday Monday is a comedy series set I the head office of the struggling supermarket chain, Butterworths.  The programme is about the group of workers that run the head office who have been forced to relocate to Leeds from London.  This means that they have left their family and friends behind and live in each other’s pocket much more than they did before.

The chief executive of Butterworths is Roger Sorsby played by peter Wright.  He is a well-intentioned man concerned about his staff but he is not dynamic and the business is failing.  He has worked for Butterworths since he joined at the age of 15 and he is now 55.  The other board members have brought in Alyson Cartmell to turn the business around and Roger is holding on to his job by his fingertips.  However, his is not ready to throw in the towel and retire.

Alyson Cartmell played by Holly Aird is the company’s chief operating officer and has been recently recruited to downsize Butterworths and drag it into the 21st century.  She has her targets and she is going to achieve them no matter who might get hurt along the way.  She expects to take over from Roger.

Steven is played by Tom Ellis and he is PA to Alyson.  He is also having a passionate and secret affair with his boss.  He is also attracted to Sally, the PA to the human resources department.  He was recruited by Alyson and is also new to the company.

Christine Frances, the head of human resources is played by Fay Ripley.  She has a drink problem and is a whisker away from being an alcoholic.  Her addiction adds to her poor performance in the office and she relies on her PA Sally to do even the most basic of tasks.  She is truly inept and her colleagues including Roger have let her get away with it for years.

Sally is PA to Christine and is played by Morven Christie.  She is naturally highly-organised and has to act as nursemaid to her chaotic boss.  But her efforts in the office leave her private life a bit of a disaster.

Neil Stuke plays Max Chambers who is head of marketing.  Max is a schemer and will do anything to achieve what he wants.  He is so so at his job and deludes himself that he is an athletic.

Natasha has been seconded to Max’s department and is in competition with his PA Vince played by Saikat Ahamed.  She is also a “modern girl” with lots of boyfirends.

Jenny Agutter is Jenny Mountfield, Roger’s PA and is dedicated to him and the company.  She was widowed ten years ago and is a high-organised professional who amuses herself by running an unofficial blog on the company’s website which pokes fun at her co-workers.
