Marple - The Pale Horse (30/08/10) starred Julia McKenzie in the title role but it was Pauline Collins as the “proprietrix” of the hotel (and chief witch) who stole the (very) starry show. David Morrissey stars in ITV stalker drama at 9pm

Based on the true story of stalker Maria Marchese, this drama starts with Dr Jan Falowski (Morrissey) receiving numerous silent ‘phone calls and texts daily. He involves the police and the situation becomes more tense, ending with the death threat “U Be Dead”. He had already realised that his life and his fiancées (Tara Fitzgerald) are in real danger. Mad Men Series 4 to start on 8th September

The BBC is to air the new 4th series of Mad Men four months early.

In an attempt to mitigate illegal downloading of the show, the BBC will broadcast the new series only weeks after it first airs on AMC in the US.

Vexed gets 2.2m viewers and mixed reviews

BBC2’s new comedy drama Vexed got overnight viewing figures of 2.2 million.

Helen Rumblelow (Times): “The problem is, it’s a bit too funny”

Sam Wollaston (Guardian): “Puerile, silly and shameless – a few people might be vexed by Vexed. But I loved it”

Michael Deacon (Telegraph):”...left me pondering a deep and troubling question. Namely, am I losing my mind?”

Virginia Blackburn (Express): “To say that it was awful is like pointing out that the Atlantic Ocean is wet: there are no words to describe how bad this series, a so-called comedy-drama, is”

Keith Watson (Metro) : Peppered with old jokes and a creaky soundtrack, it’s a satire

on 1980s sleuthing that plays its cards close to its chest, throwing in random old pop culture references in the middle of tasteless corpse-hopping. It may be giving it too much credit but it’s deliberately rubbish, although not in a ‘crikey aren’t we clever at being rubbish?’ kind of way.

Last Bill episode

The final episode of The Bill will air on Tuesday 31st August. The show will end with a special two-parter revolving around the story of a teenage girl involved in the murder of a 14-year-old suspected gang member. Executive producer Johnathan Young said: "The series will conclude this summer with a compelling contemporary story that tests our cops on the streets of London both physically and emotionally for one final time. Hustle Filming

Filming has begun on the seventh series of Kudos Film and Television and Red Planet Pictures' Hustle. The gang are back with Adrian Lester as master con man Mickey "Bricks" Stone, with his "partners in crime"; veteran roper, Albert Stroller (Robert Vaughn) and fixer extraordinaire, Ash "Three Socks" Morgan (Robert Glenister).
