Photograph of Toby Stephens and Lucy Punch stars of BBC comedy police series Vexed.

Vexed, a brand-new, glossy, fast-paced comedy drama, revolves around Kate and Jack, a detective duo with real chemistry.  Three crimes, two detectives, one continuing argument...

Bright, sexy and funny, their personal lives are as complicated as the cases they investigate. They may be cops but Jack and Kate suffer the same frustrations, preoccupations and insecurities as everyone else. Always on the move or in their unofficial office – the local cafe opposite the police station where the coffee and gossip are better – their cases say something about modern life in a fresh and entertaining way.

The bickering pair are DI Kate Bishop (Lucy Punch) doing her best to solve their cases while DI Jack Armstrong has a poor interview technique and is bored with life.  The programme has been compared with the 1980s show Moonlighting which starred Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd but Vexed has some dark humour and is not too worried about being too politically correct.

Vexed - Episode One

In episode 1, Kate and Jack attempt to catch a murderer who is using a supermarket loyalty card scheme and customers' purchase histories to pick out victims. However, while Kate uses the case to see whether her husband is having an affair, Jack decides to use the investigation and database for other purposes – his own love life.

Vexed - Episode Two

In episode 2, Jack and Kate investigate the attempted murder of a high-flying banker who was almost blown up by a bomb under his car.  However, as they launch their unusual investigation in a private clinic, Jack is preoccupied with Kate’s relationship and she tries to conceal her marriage-counselling sessions.

Vexed - Episode Three

There's mixed news for Jack and Kate in episode 3 and an unusual investigation to tackle, as the glossy, fast-paced comedy drama revolving around a detective duo with real chemistry concludes.

Jack discovers the lump in his testicle is cancerous and, as Kate gets back together with her husband, he suggests giving up the London dream and moving back to Bristol.  Meanwhile, the abduction of Gemma G, a member of girl band Candy Crew, throws up an unusual investigation for the detective duo.

Production details

Written by Howard Overman (Misfits, Merlin, Perfect Day) and directed by Matt Lipsey (Psychoville, Saxondale, Little Britain), Vexed unites Lucy Punch (The Class, Hot Fuzz, Big Breaks) and Toby Stephens (Wired, Jane Eyre, Robin Hood) in the lead roles of Kate and Jack.

Vexed is also being shown on the BBC HD channel – the BBC's High Definition channel available through Freesat 108; Freeview 50; Sky 143 and Virgin 108.
